Mr. Capone-E is one of the originator’s of the West Coast gangsta rap movement, Mr. Capone-E has made quite a name for himself while still in his prime. Mr. Capone-E’s latest effort, Don’t Get It Twisted (SMC Recordings) is an album designed to cement his hold on the mainstream music scene while conquering the ears of those who write him off as just another “West Coast artist”.
Growing up in San Gabriel Valley (SGV) on the East Side, Mr. Capone-E was fed a steady diet of West Coast gangsta rap, Nate Dogg hooks and oldies. He was heavily inspired by gang culture and watched as many of his childhood friends found themselves embroiled and eventually vanquished by it. Instead of falling into the same trap, Mr. Capone-E redirected his efforts after getting out of jail and focused on his music. He is now regarded as the first rapper to come out of the SGV and is a well-known presence across the US.
The album, Don’t Get It Twisted, features a lead single by the same name, featuring the mega-successful Twista. With the release scheduled for August 29th, Don’t Get It Twisted features production by Fingazz and Lil Joe, as well as additional cameos by Lil Eazy-E, Bizzy Bone, Layzie Bone and Lil Flip. Mr. Capone-E will continue his collaboration with Lil Flip later this year on an effort entitled “Lil Flip and Mr. Capone-E present…” This project is the story how two street soldiers, Lil Flip & Mr. Capone-E have emerged onto the mainstream rap scene.
Don’t Get It Twisted is a record that all can enjoy - perfect for a party, but still gritty enough to earn respect on the streets. Mr. Capone-E is confident that his new alliance with SMC Recordings will ensure that the album reaches everyone with ears. “I like SMC for their independent label style, but they work hard and are organized. They deal with PR, radio and promotions like a major label and I like that they have distribution by Fontana/Universal Music,” he says.
Ralph Tashjian, CEO of SMC Recordings, shares in Mr. Capone-E’s excitement. “When I heard this album, it confirmed my belief that Mr. Capone-E was a perfect fit for SMC. He’s a breakout star and we expect incredible sales,” he predicts, “This one can go the distance.” Don’t Get It Twisted.
